Located 50 miles from Dumfries which is the largest town in South West Scotland DG8 6NT
Take the A75 from Dumfries and head to Stranraer roughly a 50 minute drive from Dumfries
1hr 20 minutes from Carlisle
and
1hr 50 minutes from Glasgow
We are located on the main A75 bus route to Stranraer for the Irish ferries at Cairnryan and the bus stop is 2/3 minutes walk from the cottage making travel to and from the cottage by bus an option
Things to do
The town of Newton Stewart is only 5 minutes walk and contains numerous small local shops as well as smaller grocery stores
There are cash machines, carry outs, several restaurants and also even night club in the town
Newton Stewart Golf Club
Located 3 minutes walk from the cottage is Newton Stewart Golf course
This is a superb 18-hole parkland course measuring 5,806 yards (par 69), with spectacular views from every hole. You may even spot the occasional deer wandering across this magnificent course.
The cottage is 2 minutes walk from the Cree bridge hotel which has a public bar and serves fantastic meals, there is a garage and pharmacy 2/3 minutes walk from the house and the Cree Inn is the local pub which is 3/4 minutes walk from the cottage also
Forest Walks
There are lovely, waymarked forest walks starting from the Visitor Centre. within the Kirroughtree forest and surrounding areas. The country is beautiful at any time of year but especially in the spring and autumn months

Within easy drive (or cycle) from Newton Stewart are some of the most beautiful and rugged parts of South West Scotland steeped in history and folklore
Since 2009, Galloway Forest Park has been designated by the International Dark-Sky Association as only the fourth Dark Sky Park in the world, and the first in the uk, named a Gold Tier park for its breathtaking and rare stargazing conditions.
There are numerous beautiful beaches and costal walks within an easy drive of the cottage, no two days will be the same
